TASS has quoted the Russian Federation’s Ombudsman for Children’s Rights, Maria Lvova-Belova, as saying that “the number of children in shelters and orphanages has gone down from 60,000 in July 2024 to 47,500 as of 1 July this year”, adding that the figures were continuing to fall.
The Commissioner also stated that the Russian President has set a target of reducing the number of children in orphanages in Russia to at least 30,000 by 2030.
